Yeast Infections Symptoms: Signs a Yeast Infection may be Present

There are a number of yeast infections symptoms that could mean a yeast infection is present. It’s important to know that just because one of these symptoms occurs, it doesn’t automatically mean it’s a yeast infection. If you have never had a yeast infection before, knowing all of the symptoms may help you to diagnose one if you were to get one.

  • Vaginal burning
  • Vaginal itching
  • Painful during intercourse
  • Vaginal irritation (red, itchy)
  • Painful urinating
  • Vaginal discharge (normally odorless, could be watery, often times is like the color and consistency of cottage cheese)

If there is vaginal discharge with an odor, it is likely something other than a yeast infection and may warrant a visit with your obstetrician.

Any time the good bacteria in a vagina is interrupted, vaginitis can occur. Just because vaginitis occurs, does not mean that a yeast infection is present. If you notice vaginal itching, it may be from using feminine douching products, bubble baths and hygiene sprays.

Vaginal discharge is normal and it happens every day. It should also be noted that the thickness or consistency and the amount of discharge depends on where a woman is at in her menstrual cycle. Chances are it is a yeast infection if the discharge becomes milky or gray colored and has kind of a chunky consistency, not smooth.

There are home test kits available in stores to determine if you have a yeast infection, but try to stay away from the store kits that cure yeast infections. Natural yeast infection remedies work the best and even better, they are not at all harmful to the body. These methods should always be tried first. Oftentimes using natural methods helps to prevent yeast infections from coming back.
