Welcome to Yeast Infection Remedies

Any type of person may need yeast infection remedies at some point during their lifetime. It may happen one time, or it may happen several times. Yeast infections can affect men, women and children of any age. Most people are familiar with the female yeast infection that affects the vagina. Though yeast is naturally found in the vagina, it becomes a problem when the yeast levels are increased.

Yeast infections symptoms include itching and burning in the vaginal area that will often make intercourse painful. A discharge that resembles cottage cheese in both color and consistency is a common symptom of a yeast infection.

There are also a number of things can make people predisposed to a yeast infection and those things include:

  • Drug abuse
  • Douching
  • Oral contraceptives
  • Medications
  • Perfumed hygiene spray
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Pregnancy

Because of the embarrassment, many people are hesitant to visit their local convenience store to pick up over the counter yeast infection remedies, but they don’t think they have any other choice but to make that mortifying trip. The topical medications sold over the counter can work, but if the yeast infections are recurring, the yeast can actually become immune to the medicine which will make getting rid of the yeast infection almost impossible if this occurs. Natural yeast infection remedies can be found on the internet and orders can be placed online and shipped discreetly for optimum privacy. The products contain natural ingredients that heal the body from the inside out to prevent yeast infections from returning.

It can be embarrassing to buy products for a yeast infection, or to visit with a doctor and talk to them about such a private issue. Although, if yeast infections are recurring, it may be time to analyze your diet and if switching to a diet filled with healthy foods doesn’t keep the infections at bay, it’s time to make an appointment with a physician for further treatment.

A Quick Remedy for Bacterial Vaginosis

Earlier, we talked about reverse engineering and how you can contract bacterial vaginosis. This week we’re going to start by looking at ways to clear up these types of infections after we get them.

Like with any type of infection, your body is able to handle any attack using its natural defense system and usually manages to keep thing okay. Your first line of defense is your skin. The skin is specialized in such a way that it has the ability to slough off slippery mucus most of the time, if not all the time, unless there is an opening in the skin.

The mucus located in the vagina does a few different things. First, it acts to wash away and keep the vaginal area free of anything that might be around. These cells continue to secrete the mucus which we see in our underwear at times as discharge.

Under normal circumstances, the discharge shouldn’t raise concern, but with bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections, it starts to smell fishy or foul. This occurs because the mucus contains the dead bacteria and if you have had sex, the semen will mix with the mucus and allow for an even stronger smelling discharge.

This offensive smelling discharge will typically not go away, no matter how often pads or underwear are changed. Now would be the time for an intervention. Medical douching is one more thing you can do besides wearing fresh underwear daily and bathing regularly.

Douching is not normally meant to be used everyday. The vagina is extremely sensitive and has been designed to take care of itself, without the help of soaps and other products. The mucus in the vagina does all the “rinsing and washing” on its own, even after regular sexual intercourse. But when situations like this occur, that being bacterial vaginosis, it is perfectly fine to douche for a short term treatment.

There are a number of several different douching solutions that can be used. One popular solution is to make goldenseal tea with garlic (can be crushed, steeped in the hot tea and strained). We generally think of garlic as being smelly all by itself, but it actually kills the bad bacteria. The bad bacteria and the foul smell will go away with a goldenseal tea and garlic douche.

One other douche solution can be made using a combination of colloidal silver and warm water. Some say that a mild blend of hydrogen peroxide with warm water helps also, but it should never be used more than once a day. Follow up one of these douching solutions with plain yogurt to bring some of the good bacteria back into the vagina.

Gently pat the vaginal area dry and be sure to allow it to dry really well before resuming your normal daily activities.

Douching with any of these methods, as well as other antibiotic solutions works in the very same way as the creams do that your doctor gives you, or those sold over the counter, to get rid of bacterial vaginosis. But do realize that this will only solve the topical problem of bacterial vaginosis. The real solution or cure is far more involved. We will be talking about permanent cures in the coming days.

How to Cure Bacterial Vaginosis at Home

Finding a yeast infection remedy at home is actually not hard at all. It takes a bit of patience and some rather simple lifestyle changes on your part, but nothing too mind boggling. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be talking about some of the most basic things you can do to get rid of bacterial vaginosis.

So starting with today, let’s talk about what causes it and then think about how we can get rid of it. Bacterial vaginosis basically a more fancy term that means there is a bacterial infection of the vagina. The vagina is the perfect environment for bacteria because it’s moist and warm. It’s no wonder that the vagina would seem to basically offer an open invitation for repeated infection if it weren’t for the body having natural defenses built right into it. Good bacteria is a natural defense, along with having a normal pH level. Read more »

Yeast Infections Symptoms: Signs a Yeast Infection may be Present

There are a number of yeast infections symptoms that could mean a yeast infection is present. It’s important to know that just because one of these symptoms occurs, it doesn’t automatically mean it’s a yeast infection. If you have never had a yeast infection before, knowing all of the symptoms may help you to diagnose one if you were to get one.

  • Vaginal burning
  • Vaginal itching
  • Painful during intercourse
  • Vaginal irritation (red, itchy)
  • Painful urinating
  • Vaginal discharge (normally odorless, could be watery, often times is like the color and consistency of cottage cheese)

If there is vaginal discharge with an odor, it is likely something other than a yeast infection and may warrant a visit with your obstetrician. Read more »

Not too long ago, I talked about a few yeast infection causes. Here is part 2 of that same series and I will be listing a few more causes of yeast infections that you may or may not have known about. It’s really important that women are aware of how they can help prevent yeast infections and what can possibly predispose them to getting one in the first place. Read more »

Yeast Infection Causes Part 1

There are a number of yeast infection causes and certain precautions should be taken for anybody, especially those who may have had multiple yeast infections in the past.

  • Clothing: Clothing that traps heat and moisture can lead to yeast infections. This is because yeast thrive in warm, moist environments.Fabrics like leather and polyester should be avoided in the vaginal area. Stick to breathable, white cotton underwear and be sure to change them at least once a day. It may be necessary to change them more often during an actual yeast infection, but always change underwear at the first sign of moistness. Yeast will multiply very quickly if the environment is too warm and moist for a long enough period of time and it’s possible a yeast infection could develop. Read more »
